Hutch x Maxey Greene for Nuuly!

I feel like someone needs to pinch me. My collaboration with Nuuly and Hutch truly is a dream come true.

I’ve dreamt about doing my own line for a long time. I knew it would be filled with flowy silhouettes, comfy fabrics, a full size range, and duh, florals!

But the question was, how?

I have been a Nuuly subscriber since the day they launched. I’m a big fan of renting clothing! When I found out I was pregnant in April, I knew Nuuly would come in handy for my changing body. I pitched the idea of working together to them and they agreed! It felt like a natural fit.

They brought me on to highlight their plus pieces. I chose 100 of my favorite items that came in a size 18 (which was surprisingly hard because I LOVED so much!) Their selection of clothing is so perfectly curated. It has some of the best pieces available for plus.

Plus size women have a hard time in general finding clothes that fit them and their style, then add in a bump! Fashionable plus size maternity just really doesn’t exist. So, even though Nuuly didn’t have maternity specific items in plus sizes- they do offer a filter that shows you clothing that work with a bump and because you’re renting- you can size up without commitment! That’s why they were my go-to throughout my pregnancy.

So, during our partnership when I was hunting through all of their gorgeous options of maternity brands that didn’t cater to plus sizes, I thought…

“well, why don’t we just make one!?” Bold, I know 😅.

I’ve known the Hutch team since 2016. I was their fit model! I’ll always remember my casting with them. I wanted the job so badly because it was the first time EVER I had tried on clothes, in my size, that I truly loved. The thought that they were starting to cater to plus sizes made me ecstatic for the future of plus size fashion! No one was making whimsical, romantic dresses like them at the time.

I knew they would be the team to work on this with me on this.

I took a chance and asked if they wanted to collaborate on a dress line with Nuuly... they said absolutely! And it all just fell into place.

We started working on it immediately. We had quite a deadline to get this line produced and shot on me while I still had my bump! We all worked incredibly hard to get it all just right. Of course, the styles mattered a lot to me- I wanted them all to be “Maxey” dresses, but the size range was most important. Carrying up to a size 5x was necessary!

When it came to shopping during my pregnancy, I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a skirt or a top that would only fit me for a few months. That’s why this line is really special. Not only is it rentable, but it works bump or no bump! All the fabrics were chosen because of the ease and comfort. Plus, right now who wouldn’t want to be lounging in a gorgeous dress that feels like pajamas? We also made sure that the majority of items were nursing friendly! I wanted a woman to know that this piece can work on her in any stage of her life.

Every single piece was fit on both a straight size model (size 6) and a plus size model (size 18). We held zoom fittings where I got to make sure the pieces worked. I wanted to be a big part of the process because fit is so important to me! We made the pieces a bit roomy to keep the pregnant woman in mind and stayed true to Hutch’s size chart. In my opinion you can size down one size in a lot of the pieces. I’m wearing a 1x in everything (I’m usually a 2x).

Neither of the fit models were pregnant, but the Hutch team supplied them with faux bumps to make sure every item fit her during every stage.

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about the process. Go check out my landing page on the Nuuly website and let me know if you decide to give it a try! If you’ve never ordered from Nuuly before, they’re a rental service that caters to sizes 00-40. It’s $88 a month for 6 pieces. If you decide you’d like to keep something (I’d be so flattered!) you’ll be charged seperately, but at a nice discount.
