My Beauty Favorites
Curious about my favorite beauty products??
So let's get right to it.
Starting with skincare:
I stick to the exact same routine every single morning and night. Now that I think about it I’m actually pretty proud of how well I stick to it. I couldn’t tell you the last time I fell asleep with makeup on. So, I usually start the morning by splashing my face with some cold water. If I need to use a cleanser (like if I didn’t get all my makeup off the night before) I use Cerave face wash for normal to dry skin. Afterwards, I follow with some sort of toner. Recently I’ve been using Herbivore Jasmine Green Tea Balancing Toner. I’ll spray it on my face and pat it in. Once it’s mostly dry, I’ll use Cerave moisturizing cream. While the moisturizer is soaking in (don’t let it completely dry), I’ll press in one of my morning oils, I’ve used Daily Reviving Concentrate Face Oil from Kiehls for a long time, but just started using Biossance Vitamin C Rose Oil and I’m a huge fan. Last step in the morning is SPF, I have fallen madly in love with the Supergoop Glow Screen!
In the evenings, if I’m wearing makeup I always make sure to double cleanse. I’ll start with Biossance Oil cleanser to really help get all of the makeup off. Afterwards I wash my face again with the same Cerave wash I used in the morning (if I didn’t wear makeup that day I’ll only use the Cerave). I’ll finish off with the same morning moisturizer, Cerave, and then immediately follow with Midnight Recovery Concentrate Oil from Kiehls.
Some honorable mentions include my tried and true face mask, the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask. I typically use this once or twice a week while in the bath. My favorite exfoliating cleanser is Tata Harper, I keep this in the shower and use it every other shower. Whenever I get a pimple I throw on some Origins Spot Remover and it drastically reduces it by the next morning. And lastly I’ve been using these eye masks and I’m obsessed.
Now let’s move onto my makeup routine!
My first makeup step is foundation.
Depending on the day or what I'm doing; I have two for directions I go in. Either a soft, lighter face or heavier. Recently I've been leaning towards a lighter face. My favorite, holy grail item is Kosas Face Oil in shade 01. It took me a while to figure out how to lay it on my skin, but now that I have it figured out- it's the most beautiful product I've ever used. It creates such a luscious, dewy texture & it’s clean! For me, it was all about making sure my skin was prepped and hydrated- from the inside out! It doesn't work great on my skin when it's dry. So, moisturizer prepping is very important, but make sure your moisturizer is pretty soaked in before using the oil.
On heavier days I'll go for Westman Atelier Foundation Stick. I’ve really fallen in love with her brand! This foundation goes on so nicely, it’s still light coverage, but it’s more build-able than the oil. On days where I don’t want to use foundation at all, I’ll just press on some Jones Road Miracle Balm in bronze for a sunkissed look.
I apply the face oil and balm with my fingers, but I use a damp beauty blender for the foundation. I either wring it under the sink or spritz a little rosewater on it.
Then I move on to the rest of the base of my face.
I have been using RMS “Un” Cover-up in shade 11. I absolutely love this concealer! I'll dab a little under my eyes using my fingers and to any blemishes I want covered up.
Once I let it settle- my under eyes often crease because of the way they're shaped. I'll dab the crease away with a finger and then swipe on a tiny bit of Beauty Counter translucent powder using a brush.
For my brows, I use Roen Vow Brow Eyebrow Pencil. I’ll brush them out first, then fill in the tails of my brows and a little bit throughout the rest.
Then I move onto my cheeks.
My everday favorite is Westman Atelier in Chouchette. It looks very natural on my skin tone and matches my natural lip shade. I also love Kosas in 8th Muse it a has a rosy finish and it’s beautiful on my winter skin. Occasionally I’ll use a little Tower Bronzer to contour a little around my face or I dab a little on my nose for a sunkissed look.
I apply all my cream products with a beauty blender!
After my cheeks, I like to swipe on a little highlighter. I have been loving the cream one from Decorte. I’ll dab a little on my cheekbones and my cupids bow.
Next up is the eyes.
I have quite a few different products I like to use on my eyes. It really just depends on my mood or the look I’m going for.
My latest favorite is Decorte eye glow in Slick Beige. It has a more intense shine to it, but I’m all about it. For a softer look, I’ll use Ilia’s Eye Tint in Glaze or Kosas 10 Second Eyeshadow in Copper Halo. For all of these cream eye shadows- I dab a little on my lids and then blend it out with my finger.
If I’m going for more of a dramatic look, I’ll use my Tarte Clay Pallet in Bloom using a brush. My favorites in this pallet are Flower Child and Funny Girl. Rocker and Smokeshow are great for a heavier eye look.
I don’t use eyeliner regularly, but if I do I use either Ilia Gel Liner in brown. Or if we’re really going for it I use Bite Liquid Liner in black.
Don’t forget this important next step! Curl your lashes.
I didn’t curl mine for so long and it makes such a massive difference. I use the Kevyn Aucoin curler- it’s great for my eye shape. Different eyes work better with different tools. Kevyn is great for bigger, rounder eyes. But if you have smaller eyes- go for a flatter design, like Surrat.
Once curled and perked up, I swipe on some Ilia Limitless mascara. This is a newer product for me. I was using Benefit Roller Lash forever (and I absolutely loved it) but switched to Ilia as I’ve been transitioning to a cleaner face. Ilia was a recommendation from my good friend, and professional makeup artist, Jenna Menard. She knew I would love it and she was right!
After I let the mascara sink in, I’ll go in for a second curl. But make sure it’s dry!
We’re almost done! Time for the lip.
I have quite a few different directions I go for with the lip and it usually depends on the direction I went in for the cheeks or the eyes. For my everyday, natural lip- I’ll loosely line my lips with Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and make sure to get a little bit on the fullest part of my lips too. And then just swipe on a little clear Decorte Lip Oil. Sometimes, I also use Kosas Lip Oil in Malibu or Tower in Terracotta.
For lip sticks, my favorites are Gucci Painted Veil (a sheer rose), Kosas Rosewater (a sheer pink), Decorte Nude, or I’ll go all out and use Kosas Electra (a vibrant, cool tone red).
If I decide to go for the red lip- I’ll make sure to line my lips with Charlotte Tilbury Walk of Shame.
And just because I feel like I have to bring it up- the Laniege Sleeping Mask is the best lip product on the market. I use it before bed and also as a gloss during the day.
We might as well quickly cover hair too, right?
Feel free to check out my everyday hair tutorial next if you’d like a visual guide, but lets talk products here.
On most days I’m using my Babyliss 1-1/4" Straightener to create a soft, lived in wave. If I want a stronger curl I’ll use a Hot Tools 1" Curler, and if I want to go for a straighter, but filled with volume look- I’ll blow it out with the Amika Hair Blow Dry Brush.
For dry shampoo I use Klorane. Make sure to let it soak in for a minute then shake it out- it has the most delicious, light smell and works great with hair texture similar to mine. If I need some extra hold I’ll spritz on some R&CO flexible hairspray. The only other product I love is a push powder from Surface. This is for more of a stylized look. It’s basically like a glue and I’ll throw it on my roots if I want tons of volume- tread lightly with this product!
